If you had a vehicle that you depended upon and you saw me pouring rubbing alcohol into that vehicle, what would be your first reaction?

You would probably be the want to kill me.  Why?  You know that pouring rubbing alcohol into the tank of your car would likely adversely impact the vehicle and probably render it useless if I continued to do so.  The fact of the matter is, this is what most of us do, with what we put into our bodies.  We put stuff into our body that may help it start and move, but in the long run will damage the vehicle.  This is exacerbated when we put a strain on our bodies but do not give it the adequate fuel to handle this added challenge.  Nutrition is as important if not more important than exercise.  In fact, if you exercise but eat bad you actually damaging your body.  True Fitness solves this by ensuring that whatever exercise regimen you have, and more importantly whatever lifestyle you live you know exactly what you need to be eating at any given time.  This means that your diet may change, when your lifestyle changes.  Here comes another story.

As a diabetic, you must be able to monitor, measure and adjust the food you eat.  Let me give you an example.  I was working it out consistently, 6 days a week.  After a while I realized I need to take a week break and change my workout.  I rested a week, came up with another workout program and was getting ready to begin the new program when I began to feel really bad, fatigued if you will.  Instinctively I took my blood sugars on the spot.  My blood sugars had spiked.  Why?  I had stopped working out, but hadn’t adjust my diet to the lower caloric intake and carbs that I no longer needed because I wasn’t expending has much energy.  What is the moral of the story?  First, you must be in a state of perpetual readiness.  In other words, had I been disciplined in taking my blood sugars (as I should do) I would have instantly seen the problem and been able to address it immediately.  Second, have what we call in the military situational awareness.  What is situational awareness?

Situational awareness is being constantly aware of what is going on around you so that you can make the necessary adjustments to deal with that situation.  Every situation has different needs and to be successful you must be able to respond in a way that is tailored toward the situation.  In the case of my nutrition in the aforementioned scenario I should have understood that my exercises situation was changing, and I needed to respond by adjusting my nutrition.  This may seem insignificant, but many people run head first into calamity simply because they were not paying attention. getting ready to begin the new program when I began to feel really bad, fatigued if you will.
